Different ways to advertise, market, make noise and spread the word about movies have been seen. Yet,  J’espère que tu vas bien, has been the first film to use a social network, Instagram for the matter, in order to crowdsource its marketing plan.

The movie consists of one continuous, improvised adventure through Montreal steets.  The filmmakers David La Haye (who stars in the film) and Jay Tremblay found an alliance with the advertising agency Taxi and together they convinced the collective Instagramers Montreal to go for a “photowalk” on a route featuring locations from the film. They reached out to these social network’s users to create movie posters from pictures for their marketing campaign.

What were the results?  87 movie posters corresponding with the 87-minute runtime, which were displayed at the Montreal’s Excentris movie theater for the film’s premiere at the end of June this year.

The idea is thought to be the world’s first movie poster campaign to use Instagram.
